Necessity is the mother of all inventions they say..! Well, you never know until you experience it right... Now, here I am, strongly believing this..! Why do I say this? Here it goes....
It usually happens that when you stay away from home, away from family and friends, something somewhere appears to be missing. I will stick on to one 'something' out of the many for the time being.. and this important something is 'FOOD'... When I am at home, I do not have to bother if I will be having anything at all for dinner or lunch (lunch...during holidays of course..! not to mention, if i am home...).. Anyways, the point here is, we tend to think about what to cook or for that matter what to eat.. and how to prepare what you want to eat... And it definitely becomes an issue if you are a novice, and know nothing about cooking apart from preparing rice and an omlette..(a delicious dish prepared with egg.. not sure if it has another name
)....!
So here i was, far far away from home. I get back to my room one beautiful night.. beautiful because, the weather was just clement with a little rain and long cool breeze. Just before I made it to the Metro to get back to my room from office, I helped myself with a good chicken burger from the ubiquitous Mc D... Satiated for the moment, it did not last in my ever hungry belly for more than an hour..! Result: Hungry again once i stepped into my room.. and what do I have at hand.. a very very poor experience in the sophisticated science of 'Cooking'... I qualified only as a 'bachelor' cook... satisfied with rice and omlette.. But today was just not going to be the case... I had to do something with anything available to satiate myself.!
Serendipity was about to happen ! I open my refrigirator and find a few carrots.. (bugs bunny's fav cawwits!) Well, not a bad idea for a night.. but i wanted something more... Rice, carrots, onions, and.......... well, how can i forget eggs... but my refrigirator had none. So as a good cook, I immediately rushed to the nearby store (thankfully, most of them are open for almost 24 hours)... well actually, did not rush.. remember the beautiful weather i was mentioning about? Yes.. so was actually enjoying the weather on my way to the store.
So, here I was, back in my lab, ready for experiments, with every little thing available at hand. Chefs! Please note that this recipe has been patented!
With initial thoughts to have rice with egg scramble, I turned on the cooker with about half a cup of rice. I was patient enough to allow it to boil. ;) Then, for the egg scramble: cut onions, put them in a frying pan with a little oil, then added a little chilly powder, 'garnished' with black pepper.. and the eggs (1 egg does not suffice, I added 2 :) - remember, I said 'ever hungry' !)
I had a smile on my face when the scramble was ready with addition of decent amount of salt.
Now, how will I use the carrots? Big question. There were two options, eat it raw, or fry it! I chose the latter. Cut onions, put it in the frying pan, simmer it for a while, then add carrots, and add chilly powder and black pepper in desired amounts (Andhrites might like it a little more spicier!). Fry for about 2 - 3 minutes in medium flame.
Meanwhile, the rice was ready. And so was my scramble and my carrot fry. What best can you do with all the three ? You got it! Mix it!!! But I did it in a sequential order..
Mix the rice and the carrot fry in the frying pan and heat for a couple of minutes. Remove from flame and add the egg scramble and mix lightly. Voila!! Bops pulao is ready! Find tomato sauce and have Bops pulao with it! I must admit, my dinner was made...
One last thing, i forgot to tell you how to cut the carrots.! Cut it in shapes as desired!! After all, delectable is the key..! Aint it??
If you have any queries, or concerns, feel free to post your comments. I shall try and answer all of them :) The name is Bops.
